Interactive panel debate - can a distinctly ‘Brummie’ set of values and/or citizenship work alongside the multitude of identities in Brum.
What does it mean to live in Birmingham and be a Brummie?
Birmingham is set to become one of the UK’s first minority/majority cities. This ‘super diversity’ raises questions around whether a distinctly ‘Brummie’ set of values works alongside the multitude of identities in Brum. This event will consider how and if education, both in the form of the city’s schools, and informal education, through museums, religious and cultural organisations, can create a shared ‘Brummie’ identity.
The event offers the opportunity to discuss questions such as whether Birmingham has a unique identity, can this identity co-exist alongside all the different identities in the city and should children in Birmingham be educated to be 'Brummies' first and foremost?
