Men at Work in the Nursery: A collection of Images
Exhibition/demonstration
Interactive Activity
The GenderEYE team at Lancaster University will present a series of images from the ESRC funded study ‘Gender Diversification of the Early Workforce: Recruiting and Supporting Male Practitioners’. The study examines why there are so few men working in early years education (nurseries and pre-school centres) and how we can recruit and support more men to choose this as a career. The findings of the study show that images of male early years practitioners are key to recruiting and supporting mixed gender workforces. However, there are few images of male practitioners available.
During this interactive event, we will present a collection of photographs and drawings which show men in caring roles with children, such as reading stories, imaginative play, washing hands and wiping noses. Through an interactive forum, there will be an opportunity to discuss the images and share your thoughts on this important topic. This event is open to the general public, as well local government, recruitment and employment agencies, careers services, secondary schools and policy makers.
