Professional decision making in health and social care

11th November 2020 09:30-12:30
Workshop

About this event

"An interactive workshop to explore how social care professionals at different stages of their careers make decisions regarding people who are unable to make their own decisions - due to their mental capacity, developmental stage or substance use. These are high stakes and complex decisions often made in conditions of uncertainty where risk to individual’s health and wellbeing is a significant concern.

Using decision making games, simulations and experiments the participants will explore the processes of decision making. For example, they will identify whether they are making decisions intuitively or more deliberately and will get to experience the pitfalls of ‘bounded rationality’. On the basis of this learning participants will use their different levels of expertise to develop strategies to improve their practice and include service users in their decision making."

This session will be run twice on the same day to provide more flexibility in attending. Please choose either the 09:30-12:30 or 13:30-16:30 slot.
