12th November 2020 18:00-20:00
Talk/Webinar, Workshop, Training/capacity building

About this event

Part 1: Introduction. AW, DL and UT will introduce the concept and background of project based learning and the PBL Goes to University project, encompassing Community Curriculum Building and Learning Cities work. A powerpoint will support, screenshared by the host (AW as lead organiser). Part 2: Showcase. Three or four invited speakers will give a short 5-10 minute talk in a carousel about their collaborative PBL projects, the issues and highlights of working collaboratively with HE and local employers, and the student outcomes and products. These short talks may be supported by powerpoint/images/video, screenshared by the speaker as designated co-host (moderated by the host). Part 3: Training guide. Participants will be introduced to the PBL Teacher resource and support guide, a digital PDF booklet produced by the PBL Goes to University project (funded by the Edge Foundation). The hosts will outline the key phases of a PBL project and how to approach the planning process. This will be supported by the host screensharing the digital PDF guide. Part 4: Project tuning. Participants will be asked to come prepared to discuss a previous or potential project idea. Breakout rooms will be used to conduct a short project tuning session. Each room will be moderated and chaired by either one of the three hosts or an invited teacher contributor from Durham Sixth Form College. Participants will be encouraged to discuss their ideas and broach any concerns or issues they envisage, as well as developing their network of contacts which they can use to extend the real world connections of their projects. Key ideas to discuss will be entry events; student products; visits and speakers (HE and local employers, both in person and virtual); and showcase possibilities. Part 5: Plenary. The three hosts will sum up the event and invite Q&A from participants.
